Continue up the road another 8.8km (5.5 mi) and pass the parking lot for Tubal Cain, Gold Creek, and Little Quilcene trails. This will be the last toilet you will see, after this it will be cat-holes and trees. Besides traffic and potholes be on the lookout for large rocks in the road.įS2860 will take you past the huge parking across a bridge for access to Upper Dungeness, Lower Dungeness, and Royal Basin trails. The road is graded in the early spring but doesn't stay smooth for long and you will have plenty of practice in pothole maneuvers. The road is narrow with plenty of pull outs that very few drivers have the courtesy of using to let oncoming traffic go by. The growing popularity of Royal Basin, Upper Dungeness, and Tubal Cain trails make this a busy road with a lot of tight turns. However, to us "journey" folk the drive is a scenic wonder. To most it may seem long, especially to "destination" people. I always enjoy driving forest service roads and FS2860 is one of my favorites. Growing up in Alaska I've learned not to take nature for granted, she has a way of teaching us a lesson at the very moment we quit paying attention. Stories seem endless about someone out for a day hike, gets lost, and either loses their life or need rescuing. A perfect example of how quickly events can change in the wilderness, how important it is to be prepared, and to have skills capable of dealing with these changes when they arise. We had a shiny new tent we wanted to test, Deborah needed a reset from work, and I am always eager to backpack.Īs it turned out, this would be a hike of two trails - The first day was dry and the second day the trail was under a foot of snow. Me and Deborah were going to go regardless of what the weather. Barking Sasquatch's daughter's had no intention of snow camping so he decided not to go. Rain was in the forecast and then snow, back to rain, returning to snow two days before our planned hike. We had two weeks to watch the weather before heading up the trail. Fortunately, Boris FX (the company behind the BCC suite) has a guide on their website. The question of how to install BBC plugins for After Effects is common. While it’s a great tool, the installation process is a little more involved. This stands for Boris Continuum Complete and it is one of the most comprehensive plugin suites available for Adobe After Effects. If a plugin doesn’t come with an installer as part of the process, you can generally install plugins by moving them to the After Effects Plugin Folder.Īs you delve into the world of plugins for Adobe After Effects, you will sooner or later come across the acronym ‘BCC ’. The only difference is that the Plugin Folder is located in Applications\Adobe After Effects. If you are wondering how to install plugins in After Effects Mac, it’s a very similar process. The Plugin library is located in Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects\ \Support Files. When you run the installer, the installer will save the plugin in Adobe After Effects Plugin folder. Most plugins come with an installer when you download the package. To use a plugin, you first need to install it on your machine so that the platform can see it and utilise it. You might be wondering how to add a plugin to After Effects. Third-party plugins allow filmmakers and game developers the opportunity to make their creations jump right out of the screen. Very much in the same way that plugins for vocal recording software allow musicians to achieve a specific timbre or effect. The great thing about plugins is that they allow you to more quickly stylise your project. Not necessarily made by the creators of the platform itself, but instead made to work on the platform. These can be specific types of compressors or other effects. We see plugins used extensively in music software such as Pro-Tools, Logic Pro X, and Cubase 10. Very simply, a plug-in is a software component that adds a specific feature to an existing computer program. Which in turn, allows you to create something even more unique. In this article, we will take a look at the best After Effects plugins and provide a list of our top 10 favourites. Stay tuned for everything you need to know! The president was able to stand up and walk after the incident, and did not immediately leave the stage Rotor rpm are a factor of pulley ratio multiplied by engine speed. A mismatched pulley ratio and alternator can lead to big problems, especially at idle where alternator performance is critical. That’s because these high-amp units typically lose output under 2,400 rotor rpm. Street use = 3:1 ratio or slightly higherīecause differing ratios can affect performance, you should take care to maintain the same pulley ratio if you decide to use dress-up pulley sets. The company follows this common rule of thumb: Powermaster supplies its alternators with pulleys matched to the alternator’s power curve. At idle, small changes in the alternator’s speed can make a big difference, so the pulley ratio becomes very important. Although the alternator’s output is dependent upon engine speed, it follows a unique curve. In order to understand the importance of pulley ratio, you first need to understand the “power curve” involved with alternator output. The ratio has a direct effect on how fast the alternator spins. For example, a 6-inch crank pulley with 2-inch alternator pulley will yield a 3:1 pulley ratio. This ratio is derived by dividing the crank pulley diameter by the alternator pulley. In short, pulley ratio is a comparison between the crankshaft pulley diameter and alternator pulley diameter. What is Pulley Ratio (and Why Should You Care)? Recommended Cable Gauge and Length for Amp Draw Cable Length However, here is a chart that matches cable gauge size to total amperage: In the case of the charge wire, you really can’t go too large. Keep in mind the factory cables weren’t designed to handle the juice of a higher-output alternator, and can restrict the flow of electricity. However, Powermaster and other alternator manufacturers do recommend you replace both the ground straps and charge wire. What Gauge Wire Do You Need?Ī performance alternator really doesn’t require much in the way of modifications. So high-output alternators will not harm your components or charging system, no matter how high you go with the amps. That is, your alternator will only supply the amount of amperage a particular component demands-and no more. And it basically operates off of supply and demand. You can never have too much amperage when it comes to alternators therefore, you never have to worry about choosing an alternator with too high of a rated output. Here’s why:Īmperage is basically the amount of electrical current your alternator can supply. For that reason, we’ve supplied a list of some common accessories and their amp draw:Įlectrical Load of Common Vehicle Accessories Accessory That depends on the current draw, along with any future accessories you plan to add. The amp ratings, although slightly higher than the highest draw of each component, will give you a good estimate of your vehicle’s electrical load. One final way to estimate your vehicle’s electrical load is to check the accessory fuses. The output should be 50 percent greater than the draw. Add up the total electrical draw and compare with your alternator’s rated output. Simply connect the ammeter in series with the battery’s ground terminal (with the engine turned off), switch each electrical component on and off, and note their amperage draws. You can also check your electrical load using an ammeter. There are a few ways to figure out whether you need to upgrade your alternator. A few telltale signs are dim headlights, poor stereo system performance, or an alternator that simply wears out quickly. Or you may have a high-end stereo system or a race vehicle with an array of on-board electronics. As the electrical load of all these accessories add up, you may find yourself in need of a higher-amperage alternator. For example, you may have a custom-built street rod with a unique combination of accessories. However, many of our readers don’t have a stock vehicle. These alternators also typically come with a 10 to 15 percent reserve to handle additional accessories. Most factory alternators are rated at 65 to 100 amps and are capable of handling your vehicle’s basic necessities, such as headlights, gauges, fuel pumps, A/C, etc. If you’ve got a basic, stock vehicle, chances are you don’t need a high-output alternator. This starts with the most basic of questions: Do You Really Need a High-Output Alternator? In conjunction with the alternator experts at Powermaster and MSD, we’ve compiled the five things you need to know before upgrading to a high-amp, or high-output alternator. Luckily, we’ve got smart friends to help us with our studies, so you can ace the topic. There are plenty of good reasons to make the leap to a high-output alternator, but you’ll need to do a little bit of homework first. So you’re considering swapping out your stock alternator. In the living zebras, these air flows could help to cool the zebras in the hottest times of the day by speeding up the evaporation of sweat. The research couple believes that these differences in temperature are enough to cause small air eddies. (MORE: Parasitic wasps ambush spiders by playing the victim) The stripes on the inanimate hide had a similar difference between black and white stripes, but the highest temperatures of the black stripes were 15 degrees Celsius hotter than the peak black stripe temperatures of living zebras. They found the temperature of the black and white stripes differed greatly on the living animals, with greater differences at the hottest points of the day. “He still has a scar,” Alison Cobb said.īut their research proved enlightening. The research didn’t come without casualties - Stephen Cobb got bit by a territorial male stallion, and his wound later turned to gangrene. They also took similar measurements of a zebra hide wrapped around clothes in the shape of a horse left in the sun on the ranch. They measured the temperatures of adjacent black and white stripes on various parts of the zebras every 15 minutes throughout the day, as well as taking ambient air temperatures near the animals. She didn’t get the chance to get close to zebras again until her 70th birthday, when she and her husband traveled back to Africa to test her idea on a couple of captive zebras living on private ranches in Kenya in December 2003. (MORE: When penguins dive for food, other seabirds follow and get a treat) She had also witnessed zebras spending a great deal of time grazing in the hot midday sun - more than the antelopes which lived in the same area - and believed the stripes might be helping them deal with the heat. But camouflage seemed a poor explanation to Cobb in light of her own observations in Africa of lions prowling up and down herds of zebras deciding which one to eat. When she was four years old, Cobb, now 85, first wondered about zebra stripes after reading Rudyard Kipling’s story “How the Leopard Got His Spots.” A nature documentary she watched claimed zebra stripes were a type of camouflage. Other scientists argue the main reason for stripes is to deter biting insects. “It’s about thermoregulation to avoid the heat and cold,” said Cobb, a retired amateur naturalist, who conducted the research with her zoologist husband, Stephen Cobb. New research published today in the Journal of Natural History shows stripes may create air flows that give zebras a kind of natural air conditioning system that helps them ward off the blazing sun. (Inside Science) - A gangrene-inducing bite in Africa, 40 years of curiosity, and backyard experiments her daughters still complain about have all come together to tell Alison Cobb one thing: Stripes help zebras keep their cool. |
